Products I Love

Products – Painting

This page will show the painting products I use most often, but probably won’t show them all.  It will be a growing list as I get around to snapping more photos of my beloved supplies.

I have tried many brands and styles of spackling paste but this Dap one is my favorite. As most of you have probably experienced, you don’t need a lot of it at one time so this little container comes in very handy. If there is a lot of time between the need to fill holes in the wall, the spackle can dry out — soooo frustrating when you are all geared up to spackle and have to get in the car and head for the hardware store!  This is the only brand I’ve used that does not dry out. Bonus for those of us short on patience – dries really fast!

Similar love goes out to the Dap Plastic Wood….smaller container and does not dry out between projects.

For painting furniture, I have fallen in love with chalk paint. I have used both the brands below.  The Annie Sloan, on the left, is spectacular for coverage and durability; the Waverly brand is also great for applying over wood – I have not tried it on laminate yet.  I prefer Annie Sloan wax to others I have tried.  While the price may seem a bit high, a little goes a very long way. It does have an odor, so be sure to apply in a well-ventilated area.

My favorite painting brush is a 1 1/2″ angled nylon bristled trim brush.  I use this size for many of my painting jobs, even when I’m not actually painting trim.  I find the nylon bristles work better when I am applying polyurethane or stain.  My go-to painting tool when painting larger surfaces is a painting pad.  Using a pad instead of a brush helps prevent streaks. When choosing painters tape, I usually stick with 3M
