Let’s Get the Garden Ready for Spring!

Can you believe it’s almost Spring?! Almost all of our snow has melted and it is rain/snowing today so it feels like Spring here. Are you ready to get outside and start your garden? Do you have landscaping plans? I am ready to get out into my garden area! When we moved into the house, the backyard was a blank canvas – grass from fence to fence. It has taken years to get this section of the backyard to the point it is. I began with creating flower beds on the East end of the yard and have since added raised garden beds, reclaimed wood planters, arbors, and a reclaimed wood tree bench. I have written about all of these projects, (with the exception of taking up the grass to create the flower beds) and wanted to do this post to share 5 projects to help you get your garden ready for Spring! Happy building!

Potting Bench

Do you have a potting bench? This one is made from a shelf I found at a thrift shop, 2 pallets, a sink & two posts from Habitat and two 8′ 4″x2″ boards from Home Depot. You can find the details in this post.

Raised Garden Beds

Building raised garden beds is easy & quick. You can built one in about 2 hours. I used three 8′ 2″ x 6″ boards and four feet of a 4″ x “4 post. You’ll need a skill saw, screw driver or drill with a screw bit, and brass screws. More information is located here.

Garden Arbor

We planted vines along our fence and I built a couple of arbors so I could plant even more vines. These are made from 4″ x 4″ posts, 1″ x 2″ boards, 1″ x 6″ boards and a couple of wooden shelf brackets. Quick to make, they add interest to the garden area. Get all the info here.

Reclaimed Wood Planters

When a section of our fence fell in a wind storm, I kept the wood to be used for future projects. These planter boxes replaced the plastic ones that held the arbors. If you’re looking for a unique planter box, you can get more information here.

Reclaimed Wood Tree Bench

I also used the fence boards to make a bench to go around our Maple tree. This is also a fairly simple project that I was able to complete in a day. You’ll want a miter saw along with your skill saw, screws, nuts & bolts, screwdriver or drill. I also used a nail gun but that is optional. Grab the instructions here.

Let me know in the comment section below if you have plans to make one or more of these projects for your own garden!
